CB Certification


CB certificates issued by SGS can serve as the basis for application for national certification marks. This service is offered by SGS Fimko (Finland) and SGS Cebec (Belgium), both affiliates are recognised National Certification Bodies.


In which countries are CB certificates recognised?
49 countries are members the CB Scheme:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uruguay and USA.

The CB certificate also gives the product added value in other countries where the certificate is familiar. In the European Union, the CB certificate is the basis for CE marking with regard to safety requirements.

To which products can a CB certificate be granted?
The CB Scheme applies to products for which there is a valid IEC standard. The products and standards covered by SGS certification service are:

  • Household equipment
  • Equipment and accessories for electrical distribution and installation
  • Heating equipment
  • Equipment for commercial kitchens
  • Consumer electronics
  • Light fittings and their accessories
  • Protective devices and electronic components
  • IT products and office machines
  • Machinery
  • Electrical appliances and components for industrial use
  • Equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use
  • Gas appliances
  • Electrical toys
  • Electromedical equipment (EMC testing)
  • Radio suppression components
  • Picture tubes
  • Optocouplers and solid-state relays

To whom is the CB certificate granted?
Manufacturers of electrical equipment in any country can benefit from the CB Scheme. Countries not covered by the Scheme will be charged a special fee according to CB-Rules. Yield from the special fee is managed by the Secretariat.

Conditions for Granting a CB certificate and its Benefits

  • Written application: Application forms can be obtained from SGS
  • Type testing at SGS or in a testing laboratory recognised under the CB Scheme. The testing can also be carried out at the manufacturers’ premises. The tested product must fulfil the requirements.
  • SGS also takes national deviations into consideration in testing. In order to obtain the right to use the certification marks of other countries without repeating any tests, the company shall submit to SGS:
    • application
    • specimen
    • test report
    • CB certificate
    • documents regarding any other relevant requirements

Each certification body sets its own fees for application processing and the use of its mark.
