Promotional Offer for Testing of Natural Mineral Water

Chinese national standard for drinking natural mineral water (GB8537-2008) will be enforced since October 1, 2009. And the relevant testing standard (GB/T8538-2008) has been in effective from April 1, 2009.

The Updated new standard (GB8537-2008) completes the definition of natural mineral water and increases the classification of products. The biggest change in this standard is add bromate and three indicators of pathogenic bacteria, while delete the total number of the colony.

Bromate has been regarded as a potential carcinogen class 2B in world. It is the by-product generated after ozone disinfection for the natural water (i.e. mountain spring water, mineral water). The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulate the maximum allowable concentration of bromate in drinking water is 0.01mg / L or less. The Chinese new standard has been in line with international standards on this item.

Although the new standard delete the item of total number of colonies, but enhance the monitoring on pathogens, add the fecal streptococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Clostridium perfringens three indicators of micro-organisms. In fact, the quality management and inspection requirements for production of mineral water are more stringent.

SGS can provide all-items test for drinking natural mineral water, help clients fully comply with the new national standard’s requirements.
